Then some of the scribes and Pharisees said to him, “Teacher, we wish to see a sign from you.”   (Matthew 12:38)

What was wrong with this request for a sign? It was not just that these Pharisees had witnessed at least two miracles already.  It was also their motivation for the request. These Pharisees were not asking for a sign so that they might come to believe in Jesus.

This is so important for us today.  We crave miracles. But why? So that we might grow in faith?  Or so that our personal wants and desires can be met?

Prayer – May we, Lord, not put you to the test for our own personal desires, but may all of our experiences bring us closer to you, in faith.
