Mt. 26:36-42; Mark 14:32-40; Luke 22:39-44. “Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me; yet not my will but yours be done.”

No discussion of praying in the will of God can bypass the Garden of Gethsemane. Our path must lead there, as did Jesus’ path. Go there now with Jesus. Take some time for this; do not rush. Go there alone, just you and Jesus. Know his deep sorrow. See his blood-sweat. Feel his excruciating pain.  Remember with him the words of Scripture, “Yet it was the will of the Lord to crush him, when he makes his life and offering for sin.”

For a few moments, do not consider your own situation or need. Instead, just watch and wait with Jesus, repeating his words: “Father, not my will but yours be done.”

So we pray,
Father, thank you for your good and perfect will which sent Jesus to become an offering for our sin. May your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Amen.
